NO MORE SACRIFICES
Hebrews 10:1-18
There is nothing better than finishing something you have been working on for a while. When you finally put that last coat of paint on a project, finally get to use that new deck, when you put that last stitch in your patchwork or get to take the new billy-cart for a test-ride. There is no better feeling than getting that project finished – especially when it is something that can be shared and used by others.
When it comes to God’s work there are a couple of great moments of ‘finishing’. The first is at the completion of the creation, where God saw all that he had made and saw that it was “very good” and so he rested from all his work. There is another great “finished” moment we are told about in the book of Revelation when all God’s enemies are finally destroyed and “he shall reign forever and ever”.
However there is another great “finished” moment which comes in the middle of history and arguably is the real highlight of God’s plans and purposes – and that moment is the death (and resurrection) of Jesus. It was not without reason that he cried out on the cross “it is finished”. He wasn’t just saying that his life on earth was over, but that he had accomplished his purpose, God’s purpose of salvation.
