HONOURING YOUR LEADERS - Hebrews 13:7

What do you think of Your Leaders?
Australians are well known for having a pretty sceptical attitude to leaders and to those in authority.

But Hebrews 13:7 tells us to Remember, Consider and Imitate our leaders who spoke the word of God to us.
Anyone who has responsibility for teaching God’s word is a leader.
Part of their responsibility is to be role models. That is why we should remember - not just remember their teaching, but to reflect on both their teaching and their lives, so that we might live with gospel motivations and priorities.

If v7 is challenging, v17 even more so:  “17 Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account.”
We are called to submit (to anything which is not sin), because our leaders are ‘watchmen’ over us (see Ezekiel 33) and must give an account to God for our godliness!
So submit, ‘so that their work will be a joy, and not a burden’.
