Reasons To Persevere
Preacher: Richard Blight
Theme: Hebrews 10:26-39
Outline
Every Christian goes through tough times in their walk with God. Times when they doubt their faith. Times when they doubt God’s goodness. Times when they wonder if it is all worth it. Perhaps as they go through suffering or some other difficulty and they wonder if they wouldn’t be better off giving up.
You may have experienced some of these things. But can you imagine how hard it would be to persevere in your faith when you were facing severe opposition and persecution? Imagine if sticking to your faith meant you faced the very real threat of losing your job, your possessions, your family or even your life. Are you sure you would stick with your faith through all that?
If I were to ask you what keeps you going I’m sure you would tell me of the things which encourage you to persevere. Perhaps your Christian friends or church fellowship. But what if that was taken away? What would motivate you to persevere then?
The passage we look at today is an encouragement by the writer of this letter to his hearers to persevere, and he gives them three reasons:
(a) A warning;
(b) a memory and
(c) a promise.
